Why Pineapple Works for Your Skin
Pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelain, and that’s where the magic happens.
Bromelain gently dissolves dead skin cells, making it a form of natural exfoliation. Instead of harsh scrubs, this works like a mild enzyme peel.
Here’s what this DIY face mask can help with:
- Acne and acne-prone skin
- Dark spots and blemishes
- Uneven skin tone
- Dull skin
- Boosting natural skin glow

What You’ll Need
You only need two simple ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon fresh pineapple puree
- 1 tablespoon honey
That’s it.
Honey helps reduce the acidity of pineapple and keeps your skin from feeling irritated. If you enjoy kitchen-based skincare, check out our How to Make Lip Gloss at Home tutorial too.

Step-by-Step: How to Do a DIY Enzyme Facial Using Pineapple
Step 1: Patch Test First
This step is not optional.
Apply a small amount of the mask to the inside of your arm. Wait 24 hours. If your skin looks and feels fine, you’re good to go.
Natural remedy does not mean irritation-free. Always test first.
Step 2: Make the Pineapple Puree
Blend or grate fresh pineapple until it becomes a smooth puree.
You only need one tablespoon. Fresh pineapple works best because bromelain is active in fresh fruit.
Step 3: Add Honey
Mix in one tablespoon of honey.
Honey helps:
- Soothe the skin
- Reduce pineapple acidity
- Add moisture
- Support clearer skin
Step 4: Apply the Face Mask
Apply the mixture evenly across your face.
You can also apply it to your neck and chest. Just wear something you don’t mind getting messy.
Step 5: Leave On for 5 Minutes
Set a timer for five minutes.
If you don’t feel any stinging after five minutes, you can extend to 10 minutes max. Do not go beyond that.
A light tingling sensation is normal. That’s the exfoliation process working.
Step 6: Rinse Properly
Rinse off with cold water.
Follow with a mild cleanser to fully remove residue. If you’re into nighttime detox routines, you might also like our Detox Foot Soak Every Busy Woman Needs to Try Tonight.
Pat dry and apply a gentle moisturizer.
What Happens to Your Skin After?
Here’s what this enzyme facial does:
- Removes dead skin cells
- Helps reduce the appearance of dark spots
- Supports more even skin tone
- Helps calm acne and oily skin
- Restores natural skin glow
Pineapple also has anti-inflammatory properties, which makes it helpful for acne-prone or oily skin types.
Think of it as mini chemical peel benefits without the spa price.

How Often Should You Use It?
Because this is an enzyme exfoliation treatment, once a week is enough.
If you have sensitive skin, start every two weeks.
More exfoliation does not mean better results.

Important Safety Tips
- Always patch test
- Do not use on broken or irritated skin
- Avoid sun exposure immediately after
- Always wear sunscreen the next day
Exfoliation makes your skin more sensitive to UV rays.
