Supplies You’ll Need

Before you dive into this recipe, gather these ingredients and tools:

Ingredients:

  • 4.55 g lanolin
  • 1.5 g liquid soy lecithin
  • 1.5 g castor oil
  • 1.4 g golden jojoba oil
  • 1 g Cera Bellina (or beeswax as an alternative)
  • 0.05 g vitamin E oil (optional but great for shelf life)

Tools:

  • A small heat-safe bowl or glass beaker
  • A small saucepan
  • Stirring stick or spoon
  • A wide-mouth tin or jar for storage
  • Kitchen scale that measures in grams

How to Make This Nourishing Lip Mask

Step 1: Combine the Heated Phase Ingredients

Add the following to your heat-safe bowl:

Lanolin can be sticky, so use the same container it’s already in to reduce mess. These oils and waxes are the base of your rich, balm-like lip mask.

Step 2: Heat Everything Gently

Place your bowl into a small saucepan filled with about 1/3 inch of water. Heat over medium on the stove until everything is fully melted (about 20 minutes). Stir occasionally for a smooth blend.

Step 3: Cool and Stir

Remove from the heat and let it cool slightly. Stir frequently while it cools. You’ll notice it change from clear to more opaque and start to thicken.

Pro tip: Set the bowl on a cool countertop to help speed up the cooling process. After 2–4 minutes, it should start forming that perfect, creamy texture.

Step 4: Add Vitamin E

Once it’s barely warm to the touch, stir in your vitamin E oil. This adds extra nourishment and helps extend shelf life.

Step 5: Transfer to Container

Spoon your lip mask into a small tin or jar. Avoid squeeze tubes—the formula is too thick once set. A little goes a long way, so you’ll get multiple uses from one batch.
